Black Pear Gardening Club

Indoor meetings/illustrated talks: usually on the third Saturday of each month, between September and May, in the parish hall in Powick (WR2 4RT), Worcestershire, at 2.30 pm. Outdoor meetings: Spring/summer garden visits and trips to visit RHS gardens.

Cafe Tuesday

Every Tuesday at the Village Hall, 11am – 2pm.  A welcoming place for free tea, coffee, soup, WiFi, company and friendship.  On the 2nd Tuesday of every month a two-course hot lunch is available (suggested donation of £5 – no need to book).

Church Bell Ringers

Fresh Fish

Max’s Grimsby Fish calls in the villages every Tuesday with fish direct from the market in Grimsby. He arrives in Hanley Castle at the end of Gilberts End lane at 1:30 pm and leaves as soon as he’s served his customers, usually 1.45-2pm, so you will need to be prompt.

Hanley Swan Market and Cafe

The Café Market is a volunteer organised event whose purpose is to provide a venue for local small businesses within a friendly, bustling café atmosphere. Held in the village hall on the last Saturday of each month (except August and December) the Café Market regularly welcomes 200 visitors each month. 

The Market does not make a profit and any surplus generated is donated to local causes and charities. Significant donations have been made to the local primary school, football and cricket clubs, food banks, St Richards Hospice, the Disaster Emergency Committee. Smaller donations have been made to the British Heart foundation, MIND and the Coach House Theatre. We aim to donate several thousand pounds each year.

The Market has two halls; the large hall hosts food stalls and the café, which has earned a reputation for the best bacon butties and high-quality cakes of which the treacle tart has become a firm favourite. The smaller hall has plants and crafts. Gentle background music is provided by Pepper Sound, making a visit a very pleasurable experience as many of our regular customers will tell you, describing it as the friendliest market they have encountered

Hanley Voices

A friendly community choir with c.60 members in Hanley Castle.  If you enjoy singing but are worried about reading music or having to go through an audition, we are the choir for you! Everyone is welcome to join us without audition.

The Hanleys’ Village Society was formed in 2003 to be the focal point for the heritage of Hanley Castle and Hanley Swan.  It carries out local history research, holds talks and activities related to the interests of members, arranges exhibitions and publishes a quarterly newsletter.

Sing for Pleasure

A regular community sing-along (first Sunday of the month  2.30-4.00 in St Gabriel’s Church). We’re not a choir – we just enjoy singing with others, with tea and cake afterwards. Tae Kwon Do

Walking Groups

Welland Walkers – meets Fridays 10.00 am at Welland Village Hall.  Walks last 1.5-2.5 hours and finish by 12/12.15pm.  New members are very welcome and you dont need to live in Welland to join.  Contact  ianhardicker@hotmail.co.uk for more information.  Or just turn up on the day.

Welland Junior FC

Weekly matches.  Kids can train on Saturdays and after schoole weekedays depending on which team they are in.

Welland Outdoor Gym
